Hiring a Costume

We have over 2000 costumes for hire, and most adult-size costumes cost from £14 to £18 to hire, including accessories, whilst some of the more elaborate costumes can cost up to £25/£30. Children's costumes start from £5 and go up to £16 but the average hire-cost of a child's costume is £6 to £10.

You also pay a security deposit which is refunded on the safe and timely return of the costume. If the costume is returned incomplete, or damaged, or not returned at all, you will be asked to pay the full replacement cost of the missing or damaged items, or to replace them at your own expense. We accept cash and all major credit/debit cards for the hire cost, but deposit must be cash.

Please tell us if you need the costume for extended hire, such as a week or more. We charge by the hire, not by the day, and can usually be flexible on collection and return dates, subject to availability. Everyone hiring a costume must bring proof of name and address - ideally a photo driving licence or utility bill etc.



When you hire a costume we do our best to make sure that you are 100% happy with your choice. We can give advice about sizes and styles, and we have a fitting-room with a full-length mirror where you may try the costumes on. Very often we are able to offer alternatives to the components of a costume to give you the best mix'n'match of accessories etc.



We aim to give all our customers the fullest possible choice, and as your costume will have been taken out of stock at the time of booking, it won't have been available for anyone else. For this reason, if you change your mind about a costume which you have reserved, the hire cost is not refundable.

As a goodwill gesture we will put the costume back into stock and if we are able to re-hire it for that date we will give you a credit note for the value of the hire-charge, minus £10 administration charge.


Advance Bookings from January to November

For events between January and November, costumes may be reserved in advance on payment of a £10 retainer. The balance of the hire charge plus the security deposit is due upon collection. We accept cash and all major credit/debit cards for the hire cost, but deposit must be cash. The deposit will be given back to you on the safe and timely return of the costume.

If the costume is returned incomplete, or damaged, or not returned at all, you will be asked to pay the full replacement cost of the missing or damaged items, or to replace them at your own expense. If you cancel your booking the retainer is non-refundable as your costume will have been taken out of stock at the time of booking, and won't have been available for anyone else from that date.



Costumes for December

December is our busiest month for costume hire so to make everything run smoothly, the procedure for booking and collecting costumes is as follows:
When booking a costume for December, the costume may be chosen in advance, paid for in full, and then it will be put away for you until collection. We accept cash and all major credit/debit cards.

The advance payment speeds up collection when the shop is crowded. When you come to collect the costume, you will just need to bring your returnable security deposit, in the form of cash. This deposit will be given back to you on the safe and timely return of the costume. If the costume is returned incomplete, or damaged, or not returned at all, you will be asked to pay the full replacement cost of the missing or damaged items, or to replace them at your own expense.

If you cancel or change your choice of costume the hire cost is not refundable. We aim to give all our customers the fullest possible choice, and as your costume will have been taken out of stock at the time of booking, it won't have been available for anyone else from that date. If you alter your booking we will put the costume back into stock. If we are able to re-hire it for that date you will get a refund minus £10 administration charge.

Costumes for New Year's Eve may be collected a few days in advance of 31st December. On collection, we will give you a slip of paper with details of the dates and times we are open for you to return your costumes. If these dates and times aren't convenient, please let us know at the time of booking if possible.
